EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY



The Village of Key Biscayne is seeking a Part-Time Horticulturist to Serve as the primary point of contact, supervise, and coordinate with crews performing horticultural tasks; landscape maintenance and installation; parks maintenance, recreation areas, and landscape areas; or irrigation system design, installation, repair and maintenance duties. As the Village’s horticulturist, incumbent will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all Village plant life and tree assets.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

•    College level courses in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Forestry, Plant Science, Botany or related field, two- or four-year degree preferred
•    Three to five years related experience and/or training.  
•    The Village will accept the current possession of at least two (2) of any of the following landscape certifications as equivalent to college level courses: Certified Landscape Inspector from the LIAF, ISA Certified Arborist, ASHS Certified Horticulturist, any of the FNGLA certifications, or a Pest Control License in a landscape category from the State of Florida.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Plans, schedules and directs daily work activities of assigned contractor(s); supervises the work of personnel involved in installing, constructing, renovating, repairing, cleaning, and maintaining parks, grounds, and recreational facilities.
•    Supervise the application of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizer, and any other chemicals needed to protect, maintain, and improve the quality of the plant life
•    Ensures contractor(s) meet safety and village policy requirements
•    Serve as Staff Liaison to the Village Beautification Board, attending meetings; assists in writing staff recommendations and communicating with committee members.
•    Oversees the installation, construction, renovation, repair and maintenance of grounds, and recreational facilities including parks, playgrounds, and related areas.
•    Conducts landscape inspections to ensure work is performed in an accurate, thorough and timely manner.
•    Responds to public complaints about landscape and Village common area conditions
•    Reviews invoices, monitors expenditures within budget and performs other administrative work.
•    Prepares and maintains work activities reports and records.
•    Performs other related duties as assigned.


HOURLY RATE:  $38.00 - $48.00 per hour

SCHEDULE:  Part-Time, 20 hours per week
