Key Biscayne Police Department Officers visit local schools each year to educate 1st and 2nd graders, teachers, parents and other caregivers about Stranger Danger.
Some basic rules for your kids are:
- Do not approach a motor vehicle where someone is asking for directions, wants to give you something, or wants to show you something. If a stranger does approach your child tell him/her to remember the license plate number of the motor vehicle and to report this information to you immediately. Call your local police and report any suspicious activity.
- Let your children know who is allowed to pick them up from school or other locations in case of an emergency, or where they can go.
- Teach your child how to use the telephone and how to call 911 and/or the police.
- If a police officer needs to speak with your child, the police officer will most often be in uniform and be in a fully marked squad car with Key Biscayne Police Department or another municipality prominently displayed. The police will understand if a child may not want to speak with the officer especially if the officer is in a unmarked squad car and is in civilian dress.
