  • Be notified in advance of spraying

The County provides the following services for the Village:

  • Weekly larval and adult surveillance
  • Daily inspections once the mosquito population increases
  • Aerial or truck spraying once a population increase is confirmed
  • Chemically sensitive individuals can register with the County to be notified in advance of spraying.

Supplemental Efforts Undertaken by the Village

Most mosquitos originate in the salt marshes of Elliott Key in Biscayne Bay National Park. Others are carried by the wind from natural areas south and southwest of Key Biscayne.

The Village entered into a contract with Clarke Environmental Mosquito Management in 2005 to provide spraying services supplementing County efforts during peak mosquito season on a per application basis. The company is now known as Clarke (www.clarke.com) and provides environmentally responsible solutions for public heath mosquito control and aquatic habitats. This service will continue in 2016 with treatments scheduled on “as requested basis”.  Clarke will respond within 24 to 72 hours, depending on their demand. The company is able to predict the mosquito season by observing the amount of larvae breeding locally. The summary of service provided by Clarke is as follows:

  • Surveillance and Monitoring
  • Community-wide truck treatments

The Village Public Works Division is specifically plans local mosquito control efforts so residents and visitors experience an enjoyable 4th of July event.
