Message from the Manager: Let's Celebrate Fall!

Andrea AghaDear Islanders:

Back to school is a hopeful time of year, filled with new possibilities and a chance to reconnect with former classmates and make new friends. As Key Biscayne families and students look forward to the first day of school, I’d like to wish everyone a fantastic 2019-2020 academic year and also remind you of some requirements.

Address Verification - For those attending the Cambridge Program at the A-rated MAST Academy, which accepts students in grades 6-12, eligible individuals must prove they are year-round Key Biscayne residents by providing two proofs of residency. For specifics on the MAST Academy admissions process and residency requirements, visit

Safety is #1 - In addition to our community’s excellent schools, breathtaking beaches and other amenities, the fifth annual Safest Cities report recently ranked Key Biscayne as the safest city in Florida. We take great pride in this fact and are grateful to our award-winning police department and hard-working fire fighters who do a commendable job in keeping us safe; it’s no doubt their hard work were major factors in our receiving this distinction. We also strive to be as efficient as possible in the delivery of such services; any new adopted efficiencies are intended to be designed to maintain or enhance the level of services we provide.

Green Spaces - Another top priority for Key residents is to create additional open green areas and playing fields for active and passive recreation. In fact, additional green space has been secured by extending our lease with Key Biscayne K-8 Center. Thanks to an amendment to the school agreement, new field lighting will be added, allowing for extended playtime during the fall and winter months when days are shorter.

New Staff Announcements - I am pleased to announce that Thomas Fossler has joined the Village staff in my office. He is responsible for strategic planning, procurement and the budget, among other duties. Benjamin Nussbaum has also started with us and will lead the Village's Finance Department.

I wish students and their families much success as school kicks off. Here’s to another fantastic year!
