Survival Tips: Ultra Music Festival 2019

There is no way around the conclusion that traffic will be unbearable during Ultra weekend as it is hosted for the first time in Virginia Key. The music festival runs from 2:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. each day on Friday, March 29; Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31 (into the early hours of Monday, April 1).

Please keep in mind the Village has no jurisdiction over events along the Causeway in Virginia Key and opposed Ultra from the beginning. Your Village leaders have spent months working to obtain traffic/transport/parking plans from Ultra organizers to develop plans to mitigate traffic and safety concerns. Our priority is to keep you and your family safe. We are also partnering with organizations to collect data on the environmental impact of Ultra.

Here are some survivial tips for Village residents, commuters and businesses:

  • Plan your weekend around estimated peak traffic times. These are 1:00-3:00 p.m., 6:00-9:00 p.m., and 2:00-5:00 a.m. each day of the festival, according to the best information we have available before the event.

  • Allow extra time to get to off-island destinations and return to the Key. If you must leave and/or return to the Key, the best times are 6:00 a.m.- noon, 3:00-4:00 p.m. and
    11:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.

  • If you haven’t already, download the Waze App now and check it before heading out.  Waze is a free, community-based social media app that provides users with live traffic reports, driving directions, maps and detailed navigation.

Download Waze at the App Store for Apple devices or at Google Play for Android devices.

  • Village officials will send out regular notifications about traffic conditions as well as alerts about special concerns as needed.

    • Sign up here to receive public safety text messages, emails or both from the Village Information and Notification System (VINS).

    • Monitor real-time traffic alerts at the Village Twitter (@VillKeyBiscayne) and Facebook (@VillageofKeyBiscayneGovernmentSite) platforms throughout the weekend.
    • Sign up at Village E-News to receive Village Press Announcement email blasts (via Constant Contact) from the Manager's Office with information of special interest to the community.
  • If you can, you may want to consider enjoying the beach, local activities and beauty of your island paradise throughout the weekend.
