  • Miami-County Transit Information: The "B" Bus Route serves Key Biscayne and connects it and Virginia Key to the mainland Metrorail/Metromover.

  • Village Pedestrian-, Bike- and Mass-Transit Friendly Community Improvements: The Crandon Boulevard Master Plan (PDF), dated 2004 with installation completed in 2008, provided the following for residents and visitors alike:
    • 4-foot wide, marked bicycle lanes on both sides of Crandon, the Village's "Main Street"

    • 8-foot wide shared use sidewalks on both sides of Crandon with ADA-compliant ramps at intersections with side streets

    • Bus Shelters with seating, trash cans and bike racks at all stops on northbound (off-island) section of Metrobus "B" Route; Bus stop plazas with benches and trash cans at all southbound (on-island) "B" bus stops.

    • Increased pedestrian safety with full crosswalks with shortened crossing routes and count-down timers at select locations

    • Street-tree planting to provide shade for pedestrians and others

    • Street Furniture and Improved Lighting for comfort and safety
  • Flex Fuel/Electric Police Department Vehicles: Old gasoline squad cars are being replaced with flex fuel squad cars on a rolling schedule. The KBPD also uses an electric golf cart for school safety tasks and has an electric segway-type vehicle for crowd control at local events.

  • Non-motorized Transportation, including Golf Carts, Bicycles and Pedestrians: The Village Council approved the formation of a voluntary Golf Cart Advisory Board on March 10, 2009 (Second hearing of Ordinance 2009-4). The Board was tasked with the study of safety and circulation issues for golf carts and other electric vehicles that are popular in the community. During meetings, the Board's scope of work expanded to include pedestrian and bicycle safety issues. The Golf Cart/Pedestrian/ Bicycle Fernwood Road and Commercial Property Safety and Access Plan (PDF) was presented to and approved by Council on August 25, 2009.
