COVID-19 Village News and Updates
Statement from Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez on
COVID-19 Contact Tracing
"We have been working closely with Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Surgeon General’s team to increase contact tracing throughout Miami-Dade County.
I appreciate the Governor’s commitment to helping expand contact tracing in South Florida, where COVID-19 has hit hardest. I am happy to announce that State and County legal staffs worked out all the final details...and I have signed the $14 million agreement to have an additional 250 contact tracers in Miami-Dade County through the end of the year."

"Rising COVID-19 Positivity Rate Will Overwhelm Hospitals Unless Everyone Does Their Part."
An excerpt from a recent statement Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez provided on the recent limits put on restaurants, gyms, and other businesses:
"There has been much debate about why some of these limits are now required. The current data in Miami-Dade County indicates that if the trend from the past 10-14 days does not change, that hospitals in our county will be at capacity in their ICU’s and with ventilators for COVID-19 patients. The rising COVID-19 positivity rate will overwhelm hospitals unless everyone does their part. I will not put our community’s health and our hospitals’ ability to save COVID-19 patients in peril to score political points. This is too serious, and people’s lives are at stake."

Update: Building, Zoning and Planning Department
As we continue to respond to COVID-19, assessments and decisions are being made on a daily basis. The Village amended Emergency Order 20-10 to provide safe outdoor dining options, serve residents, and facilitate in the economic stability and recovery of our restaurant community. As such and in response to Mayor Gimenez recent closures, please be advised of the latest modifications to the Building, Zoning and Planning (BZP) Department:
The BZP Department suspended the majority of on-site inspections until further notice. Most inspections will be conducted remotely using a video call on a smart phone or tablet. To learn more about the new modifications to the BZP Department, including how to apply for a permit, how to schedule a virtual inspection, and how restaurants can provide outdoor seating service, please click the links below.
COVID-19 Positive Cases
There are a total of 282,435 cases of COVID-19 in Florida, 67,713 of which are in Miami-Dade County.
The reported number of positive cases in the Village has increased to 169 according to the FDOH report, or 198 according to Florida's COVID-19 Data and Surveillance Dashboard.
COVID-19 New Cases Per Day in Key Biscayne
The reported number of new cases per day in the Village continues to increase based on results provided by BioCollections Lab. It should be noted that BioCollections does report positives to the FDOH; however, there is a lag in the timing between when the lab notifies the FDOH of positives cases and when the FDOH issues its reports. The increase in daily positives suggest that COVID19 safety protocols should be diligently followed (for example, wearing face coverings, maintaining social distance, and hand washing).
COVID-19 Testing on the Key
To make an appointment for COVID-19 testing, residents can call the COVID-19 Response Call Center (305-365-8910) or click the button below to visit the online portal. Do not be alarmed if you experience a technical issue with the portal. We provide website maintenance and upgrades to the portal from time-to-time, so we can better serve our residents.
Additionally, due to high demand and the decrease in availability of test kits, drive-thru testing for COVID-19 is open to any Key Biscayne resident for $85 per test per person, and scheduling is also subject to available time slots.
This week, drive-thru testing will open on Thursday, July 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
