Bacterial Monitoring

The Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Miami-Dade Office's most recent weekly sample collection for bacterial monitoring (Enterococus) in Key Biscayne took place on October 15, 2018.

Results, available here, showed that two sampling locations, Crandon Park South and Key Biscayne Beach (Beach Club) received a status of GOOD. This result means that 0-35.4 Enteroccus sp were counted per 100 ml of marine water. The location in Crandon Park North result was MODERATE. This means that 35.4-70.4 Enteroccus sp were counted per 100 ml of marine water. Note that the October 15 round of sampling did not include Cape Florida State Park, the usual fourth location. It received a GOOD test result on October 8.

Red Tide Monitoring

The latest red tide results are available at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) website's interactive daily sample map. This map is updated daily at 5:00 p.m.

Local sampling on October 18 by was conducted in Crandon Park at the swim buoy near the beach, in open water 1.5 miles east of the beach and off the southern tip of Key Biscayne in the Safety Valve south of the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park seawall. The seawater samples were analyzed at the FWC laboratory and results posted online on October 23. Results, given by gray dots on the map, showed red tide was not present or at background levels of (0-1,000 Karenia brevis cells per liter of seawater) at all three locations.
