On Sunday, June 30, 2019, at least two American crocodiles were spotted on Village of Key Biscayne beaches.  At the time, Key Biscayne public safety officials were present monitoring the situation as well as personnel from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

The Village will continue to monitor the beaches and document the frequency of crocodile sightings.

In case of a crocodile sighting, here are some helpful tips provided by the FWC:

  • Keep your distance
  • Swim only during daylight hours. Crocodiles are most active between dusk and dawn; and
  • Inform others that feeding crocodiles is illegal and can create problems for people recreating in or near the water.
