Sanitary Sewers

All of the multi-family and single-family neighborhoods in the Village have sanitary sewer service provided by the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department (WASD). A multi-year sanitary sewer installation project (Water-Sewer-Reuse,or WSR, Project) that concluded in June 2010 provided 698 single-family residences using septic tanks with the ability to connect to sewer service. Other areas of the Village were previously provided with sanitary sewers.

The four zones comprising the WSR project are shown in this color-coded sanitary sewer zone map (PDF). You can zoom in on the PDF to find your street and address. Deadline dates for connection to the sanitary sewer are given in the map legend. The Village will send certified letters to property owners alerting them that they have one year before the connection deadline. Properties must be hooked up to sewer as follows (deadlines vary depending on when work was completed in a particular zone):

  • Zone 1: December 29, 2019
  • Zone 2: June 30, 2020
  • Zone 3: June 30, 2020
  • Zone 4: September 10, 2019

Guidelines and rules (PDF) for connecting to the sanitary sewer system and for abandoning a septic tank/drainfield system are provided online. This document, last revised on October 30, 2018, includes step-by-step how to guidelines as well as permitting and fee information.

Property owners are advised to hire licensed and insured plumbing contractors to perform any work within your property. Be aware that plumbers who are licensed to perform sewer connection work may not be qualified by the state to abandon septic tanks/drainfields.
