The Code Compliance Officer position involves specialized technical work in the enforcement of General Municipal Codes of Ordinances, Zoning regulations, Property Maintenance Codes, Zoning and Environmental codes, Special Magistrates Hearing, License and Permit requirements, Business Tax and related City, County, State and Federal codes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • An Associate degree from an accredited college in a related field such as planning, criminal justice or public administration.
  • One (1) year of experience is preferred in general work experience involving enforcement of rules or laws, public speaking, and/or substantial contact with members of the public.
  • Successful completion of Level I of Florida Association of Code Enforcement Training within twelve (12) months after hired is required.
  • Must have current State of Florida driver's license.
  • Ability to fluently speak, hear, read, and write the English language. 
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
  • Must have a good understanding of computers and other electronic data devices with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, or a similar word processing program as well as Excel.
  • Ability to prepare and present Code Compliance Cases before the Special Magistrate.
  • Ability to meet and deal with the public and fellow workers in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to perform several tasks at one time.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural plans.
  • Ability to be held accountable for inventory/property management.
  • Ability to use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry.
  • The minimum qualifications may be waived by the Village Manager.
  • Must be responsible and accountable for the work product.
  • Must be an effective communicator.
  • Must be non-smoker.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enforces, explains, and interprets the Village’s Land Development Code, and municipal codes including but not limited to nuisance abatement, clearing, grading, filling, flood, zoning, and work without permits.
  • Educates business owners and residents on local and state ordinances.
  • Attend presentations at the Village or community workshops.
  • Prepares and/or distribute educational materials
  • Assists residents and businesses with applications for permits and City licenses.
  • Communicates with other departments and outside agencies to exchange information.
  • Presents cases to the Special Magistrate hearing officer and conducts follow-up inspections as ordered.
  • Issues verbal and written notices of code violation and citations for code violations.
  • Assists in resolving complex and sensitive customer service issues, either personally, by telephone or in writing.
  • Maintains records and documents of customer service issues and resolutions.
  • Research problems and service requests regarding commercial and residential properties, building construction and code compliance.
  • Creates and maintains files, reports, and photographic records regarding inspections and plan check activities and findings.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the Development Services Director/ Code Compliance Chief.
  • Manages case documentation.
  • Performs other related work as required.

 

SALARY RANGE:   $45,184.82 – 73,877.18
