Children can enjoy virtual programs from the comfort and safety of their home this summer. Families may also wish to consider in-person dance camps offered by MVSA at their studios in Coral Gables and Miami.

These programs are offered by Community Center instructors who have been serving the Key Biscayne community for many years.

SWIM & SPORTS CAMP FOR PRE-SCHOOLERS – VIA ZOOM

Swim Kids Swimming School presents a toddler and pre-school virtual summer program with quality instruction and friendly encouragement. This virtual camp includes swimming lessons from experienced instructors, yoga classes, and gym/sports recreational activities. Classes will meet through Zoom and are limited to 20 children. YOUNG ARTIST CAMP – VIA ZOOM

This all-new, all-inclusive program features live daily instruction by artist Laura Villarreal, founder of Dot Art Studio and Key Biscayne resident. During 90-minute daily Zoom sessions, campers will enjoy fun hands-on experimentation in painting, drawing, sculpture and more. They will also socialize with other campers, play games and learn about artists and art techniques. Camp activities include paper marbling and Kandinsky and making egg tempera paint and Michelangelo. Each week features a surprise art package containing materials for that week’s camp (including daily activities and lesson plans; art supplies marked for each day’s project; Zoom log-in information; your own sketchbook and a DOT Art Studio t-shirt). Art materials can be delivered free of charge in Key Biscayne or for an additional charge elsewhere. Camp is limited to 12 participants. NUTRITION, FITNESS & WELLNESS FOR YOUNG WOMEN

Embody Miami offers a teen wellness virtual program that teaches age-appropriate fitness, nutrition and emotional health to young women ages 10-17. These 4-week individualized, educational sessions include personalized nutrition plans, customized fitness plans, wellness coaching and twice weekly virtual meetings.

EMPATHY-BUILDING JOURNALING PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN

Now I Know is an empathy-building journaling program for children that promotes inclusion, kindness, unity, understanding and, of course, empathy. This summer, the program will launch its first virtual summer pilot, My Friendship Journal: A Community Journaling Project. The program will meet virtually several times per week to discuss important topics such as empathy, understanding, service and inclusion, while partaking in meaningful social interactions with peers. The cost of the 4-week program includes a book, journal and a $10 donation back to your child’s school.

MVSA DANCE CAMPS - IN PERSON & VIA ZOOM

The MVSA studios located in Coral Gables and Miami have undergone extensive changes in their operations and cleaning protocols to ensure the health and safety of their students (read more here). They will be offering in-person summer camps at both locations, in addition to virtual camps. Class sizes will be limited to 8-10 dancers. Details about the camp offerings are available here

BROADWAY MUSICAL THEATRE - VIA ZOOM

Broadway Musical Theatre’s popular intensive summer workshop is back and is now virtual! In each 2-week session, students will work on a different Broadway show by singing, dancing and acting the best songs and scenes! And for the first time, workshops will be offered in English and Spanish, it’s your choice! At the end there will be a performance via streaming. Professional instructors from NY, Los Angeles and Miami will run the workshops. Each day students will attend one hour of each class (30 hours in total): 

  • Voice Training (individual and group sessions)
  • Choreography and Dance Technique (musical theater, tap, ballet)
  • Acting and Preparation of Scenes
  • Also included - learn how to record your own music as a pro and TV/film audition coaching step by step by professionals!

Enter the magic world of Furia Flamenca from the comfort of your home! 3 Weeks, 3 Elements, Endless Fun! Focusing on learning the basics of 3 important elements in flamenco dance, instructors will lead students in learning a short choreography with each element. Hip Hop Kidz offers a virtual summer program featuring one of their top instructors, Lexi Dunbar! Participants will feel as if they are dancing in their very own music video! These virtual classes include a fun hip hop warm up, choreography from some of your favorite TikTok routines, and new and fresh Hip Hop Kidz choreography! Classes will meet weekly through Zoom. ACTING CAMP – VIA ZOOM

Mastering the craft of acting demands a strong technical foundation. This virtual acting camp is structured to introduce children and teens to the essentials of filmmaking while creating a fun and supportive environment where they can pursue their passion. Class topics include: Acting for Film; Acting Technique; Film Craft; Text Analysis; Speech; Voice and Movement; Improvisation; Business of Acting and Audition Technique. EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT VIRTUAL MINICAMPS

Help your child gain up to 1 grade in 6 weeks! Licensed school psychologist Valeria Fontanals and her team offer virtual learning minicamps this summer to help your child succeed in school. The program focuses on improving your child’s reading fluency, reading comprehension, math, writing, processing, attention, working memory, and study skills. Limit of 5 children per group. Fee includes educational therapy, materials, screenings and progress reports. KBCC members are eligible for a 25% discount! CODING FOR BEGINNERS – VIA ZOOM

Coding enables us to create computer software, applications (“apps”) and websites. Your browser, operating system (OS) and the apps on your phone are all made using code. Learning to code enables children to develop logical thinking and improve problem-solving skills. It helps them be the creators of technology, not just the users, leading them to better understand computers in our automated world. Class will meet through Zoom and is limited to 9 students. CODING FOR INTERMEDIATE – VIA ZOOM

Students with some knowledge of Scratch and with the ability to learn other coding languages like JavaScript will learn how to create and animate artistic drawings, including self-portraits. Python and Ruby programming languages will be taught. Students will also learn the basics of making a web page and website. Class will meet through Zoom and is limited to 9 students.
