Beach Water Quality: Bacterial Monitoring
The Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Miami-Dade performs routine weekly sample collection for bacterial monitoring (Enterococus) at four locations along the Key Biscayne Atlantic Beach. This is part of FDOH's Healthy Beaches Program. Results are available here. The locations are Key Biscayne Beach (Beach Club), Crandon Park North, Crandon Park South and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.
As a complement to the FDOH bacteria monitoring program, the Village is collaborating with Miami WaterKeeper (MWK) to obtain weekly bacteria levels at monitoring locations more specific to the water resources of the Village of Key Biscayne. Miami Waterkeeper is sampling at four locations: 1) Key Biscayne Yacht Club, 2) a finger canal adjacent to Mariner Drive, 3) Key Biscayne Beach Club and 4) Public Beach Access between the Oceana and Silver Sands Beach Resort. The sampling location at the Key Biscayne Beach Club is sampled by both the FDOH and MWK as an extra level of precaution and a check for consistency of results.
